Cline
Open-source coding agent for editor workflows
- Coding & development · editorial fit

Overview
Cline is an open-source coding agent that can run in an editor, terminal, desktop app, CLI, SDK, or embedded product. It reads a codebase, plans a change, edits multiple files, runs commands, and pauses for human approval when the workflow requires it.
The agent is model-agnostic and supports hosted providers, local models, MCP servers, plugins, and reusable rules or skills. Teams can extend the same runtime into scheduled tasks and integrations such as Slack, Linear, or CI systems.
Supported use cases
Repository maintenance
Plan and implement a cross-file feature or fix while reviewing the resulting diff.
Local-model development
Use a local model or provider account inside an agent workflow with tool permissions.
CI and team workflows
Embed or schedule agent work in Slack, Linear, or CI-oriented processes.
Key capabilities
Codebase-aware editing
Understands project context and coordinates multi-file edits rather than limiting a change to a single snippet.
Plan, act, and verify
Separates planning from execution, runs terminal commands, and keeps the user in the approval loop.
Model and tool connectivity
Works with Claude, GPT, Gemini, local Ollama or LM Studio models, OpenAI-compatible endpoints, MCP servers, and plugins.
Team automation surfaces
Supports desktop, CLI, SDK, and embedded use with multi-agent teams, schedules, and integrations.
