Zed AI
Code editor with integrated AI features
- Coding & development · editorial fit

Overview
Zed is an open-source code editor that embeds AI agents into a fast editing and collaboration environment. A developer can delegate a task, watch the agent discover context and edit files, then accept or reject the resulting unified diff before committing it.
Zed supports hosted models, local models through Ollama, and bring-your-own provider keys. Its Agent Client Protocol and MCP support let developers connect different agents and tools, while fine-grained permissions keep control over what an agent may access.
Supported use cases
Interactive feature work
Delegate a change, watch the agent work through the codebase, and review the diff before committing.
Private local development
Connect a local model through Ollama when code should remain on the developer's hardware.
Multi-agent editor workflows
Bring different agent clients and MCP tools into one project environment.
Key capabilities
Agentic editing and review
Delegates coding tasks, follows the agent in real time, and reviews its changes in an editable unified diff.
Agent and tool interoperability
Connects agents such as Claude Agent, Codex, or OpenCode through ACP and extends context with MCP servers.
Hosted, local, or BYOK models
Offers hosted models, local Ollama connections, and provider keys managed by the developer.
