CrewAI
Framework and platform for orchestrating AI agent teams
- Automation & agents · editorial fit

Overview
CrewAI combines an open-source Python framework for orchestrating collaborative agents with a hosted enterprise build and runtime platform. Developers define agents, tasks, tools, crews, and event-driven flows, while teams can use visual building, managed execution, and governance for production programs.
The official platform has a Free tier with a visual editor, AI copilot, GitHub integration, and a monthly execution allowance. Enterprise is custom-priced and can run in CrewAI cloud, a customer VPC, or customer infrastructure; the Python framework is available under the MIT license.
Supported use cases
Build a research crew
Assign collection, analysis, and writing roles to cooperating agents.
Orchestrate an agentic business process
Combine agents with deterministic steps and external tools in a maintained flow.
Deploy governed agents
Move a tested crew into a managed or private runtime with enterprise policy controls.
Limitations
Framework and enterprise platform differ
The MIT-licensed framework does not itself include the hosted platform’s governance, managed runtime, onboarding, or support.
Free hosted executions are capped
The platform Free tier includes 50 workflow executions per month.
Key capabilities
Multi-agent orchestration
Coordinates specialized agents, tasks, tools, delegation, and shared execution.
Deterministic flows
Combines agent steps with events, state, branches, and ordinary application logic.
Visual and code-based building
Supports Python development as well as a hosted visual editor and AI copilot.
Managed enterprise runtime
Adds deployments, governance, identity, policy, observability, and private infrastructure options.
